Gardens at St. Patrick's

A New Landmark for Religious Tourism in Kentucky
Opened on April 1, 2026, The Gardens at St. Patrick's spans several beautifully landscaped acres adjacent to the historic St. Patrick Cemetery in Old Washington. Designed as an immersive spiritual journey, the sanctuary welcomes visitors of all faith backgrounds and offers a peaceful setting for contemplation, prayer, and appreciation of sacred art.
Whether you're visiting Maysville for a weekend getaway, a family trip, or a faith-based pilgrimage, The Gardens at St. Patrick's provides an experience unlike any other in Northern Kentucky.
Walking Through the Story of Faith
One of the most captivating aspects of the Gardens is its thoughtfully designed walking trail that guides visitors through the Stations of the Cross.
Unlike traditional representations featuring fourteen stations, this sanctuary includes a unique fifteenth station dedicated to the Ascension. This addition shifts the journey from sorrow to hope, emphasizing renewal, victory, and eternal life.
Along the pathway, visitors encounter fifteen life-sized bronze sculptures created by renowned Italian sculptor Reto Demetz. These stunning works of art provide powerful visual moments for reflection while showcasing exceptional European craftsmanship.
A Recreation of Gethsemane in Kentucky
Before beginning the main trail, guests pass through a symbolic recreation of the Garden of Gethsemane.
This area features an authentic olive press transported from Jerusalem, creating a meaningful connection to the Holy Land and helping visitors better understand the historical setting of Christ's final hours before the Crucifixion.
The attention to detail throughout the sanctuary transforms a simple walk into a deeply immersive experience.
Art, Nature, and Engineering Come Together
The Gardens at St. Patrick's beautifully incorporates the natural landscape of Old Washington into its design.
Visitors cross a gently flowing stream twice via charming footbridges, symbolizing the historic journey along the Via Dolorosa. The surrounding gardens, rolling hills, and peaceful atmosphere create an environment that encourages visitors to slow down and fully appreciate the experience.
One of the sanctuary's most striking features is its monumental 70-foot cross, visible from across the property. Carefully engineered and positioned, the cross casts its shadow over the twelfth station—representing the Crucifixion—at precisely 2:00 PM each day, traditionally recognized as the hour of Christ's death.
This remarkable design element demonstrates the extraordinary level of planning that went into creating the Gardens.
